Ridge Racer Type 4
Reviewed by: Jeff Duarte

System: Playstation
Type of game: Racing

For all of you who don't know, Ridge Racer has been the racing series for Playstation. This is the fourth installment of this series, and it's their best. One amazing thing about this game is the amount of cars. There are lots of cars in this game, which are really only accessed in Grand Prix modes. And speaking of Grand Prix mode, it seems to come out of a Choose Your Own Adventure Book. The story goes along as you win races. Also with the regular game is a CD jam packed full of Namco demos, including the original Ridge Racer, with better graphics (called turbo version).
This game is just absolutely amazing. Not only are the graphics good, there are literally hundreds of cars to chose from. The one thing that sets it apart from Gran Turismo is the fact that this game is actually beat-able. I'm pretty good at video games, and I could barely get 1st place on normal mode. The stories in Grand Prix mode are awesome; they seem to come out of anime movies from Japan. My favorite is the French Team's story, although I'm not going to give away anything.
As I said, the graphics are absolutely amazing, the music is noticeable, but it's not so annoying that it distracts you from experiencing the game. This game is all-around fun with a great two-player mode, a not-impossible story mode, and loads of cars and options. All racing fans must get this game. Some systems have games that will make people buy the system for the one game; well this is one of those games.
