It seemed for a while as if nothing could come in the way of the Ted Turner owned organization, WCW. WWF was way back in the ratings and the newly formed nWo was the thing on everyone's minds. You might find yourself flipping over to the WWF if there was a "jobber match" on WCW. But otherwise, it wouldn't cross your mind.
I'll tell you one thing, no one remembers that time. It did exist. In fact, WCW WON THE RATINGS WAR FOR ABOUT A YEAR STRAIGHT. Yes, that is a true statement. I don't exactly favor one organization over another, I'm just stating the facts. Eric Bischoff would often criticize and mock the WWF program during live Nitro's.
Then the WWF woke up, got some new angles, and formed a man who was formerly a member of WCW. "Stunning Steve Austin" was his name. You probably don't remember him. Neither do I. You know why? HE SUCKED. He was just another member in the jobber fest that was taking place at WCW. Now you probably recognize this man under the name of "Stone Cold Steve Austin". I'm sure that rings a bell to almost anyone. Right when the WWF started coming back in the ratings, everyone started watching wrestling. The basketball season was on strike and there was nothing else on Monday nights. Why not watch wrestling. And just like that, WCW kinda vanished off and fell into that "2nd spot". Yep, I guess you can say that they "sucked". That's how businesses are run. They have their good times and their bad, and WCW will forever be remembered by their bad times. Poor backstage management and high ego wrestlers brought the slow downfall of WCW. You now here of WCW scoring ratings like 3.2 compared to what the WWF gets, about a 7.
So WWF is outscoring WCW by about 2:1. That's a pretty big hole to dig yourself out of. But WCW has a chance to get out of this hole. They're already on their way too.
They are trying to develop more angles. Nash and Savage, Flair and Piper, Fit Finley and Hugh Morris, whatever works. But they still aren't making everything one big picture like the WWF. Any two wrestlers could feud in the WWF and it would be normal. But to see "Rowdy Roddy Piper" and Rey Mysterio feud would make no sense at all.
It can happen though. Here's a word that is very good for WCW. SID. For all of you losers who haven't seen ECW, then you are missing the best show on the planet. Sid is one of those people that dominate ECW. What's this? Sable? Yep, she's going to WCW too. And now Shane Douglas. Him too. Plus Chris Candido and Tammy Lynn Sytch, wow. With all of these assets to the company, I don't see how they can't get back up there in the ratings. With these people, I'll take WCW any day over WWF. And Master P? That may be going a little far, but he's a celebrity and that's what WCW wants.
The WWF has wrestlers, but I think that WCW has the right ones. IF they use these people correctly, they will see the light again. And that's my scoop on the future of WCW.
